Well it has been awhile since I have posted, not that anyone follows my site. One of my recent works was this ceramic praying hands that I dismantled and made work in my favor and to show that I do not just glue them on a board and call it done, I want to make sure those guys are not coming off. The plaque and hands are all recycled from thrift store or some finds from estate sales.
Bat skull mounted on a plaque, The wings are resin from another project I had worked on. This project is almost completely recycled the wings, plaque and skull are recycled or re-purposed and the clear coat, hook and putty and glue of course are not.
This was originally done in pencil but I changed it to paint to help it stand out more I think it is much better with paint. the pencil is still on there to help with shading and I used ivory for the flames and accents on the skull design.
This one was one of my practice skulls with glow in the dark paint, the paint was brushed on with bad results as the glow was splotchy so I tried spraying it on with much better results and then added the design. I wanted a simple design so as not to take away from the glow in the dark paint when the lights are off. The skull looks really good, but the luminescent glow wears off quickly and then needs to be recharged with light. This one is very unique and is mounted on a stand, but I did not get pictures with stand. This skull sold at my Artsy Show.
I consider this one more of a non-traditional steampunk skull since it has more painting than steampunk design all though it did come out pretty nice . The photos above show some of the work in progress. The wires are held in with RV butyl/putty tape and then superglued and painted over. Now for the paint, it was coated with gesso for a primer then a layer of baby blue for base and metallic blue over that, and then of course the design which is dark blue and white. This one sold at my most recent show and is no longer available.
This is my new book I made with shutterfly, This was made as a reference catalog for when I have shows to show some work that I have done if it is not at the show. book has been removed per Shutterfly marketing strategies, all in all they do great work and highly recommend them.
Artsy arts and craft show on June 15, 2013 at Edgebrook mall This is my first show of the year, I try to have atleast one show a year and this one has been my best show so far. I have tried craft shows in the past and the attendance was either to low or just no interest at all in painted skulls. This show I sold a couple of items and received lots of good feedback, I really liked the location and hope to do it again. The steam punk designs were well received and found that unique sells better than just a painted skull. I hope to have another show this year if things go good.
